Weather usually is just weather.  Sure there may be some different ways to display it.  Some use minimalistic icons.  Others do fullscreen live motion displays to tell you the weather.  But do any of them do anything else for you?

Authentic Weather is a weather app that curses at you or at the weather. It can provide a good chuckle but more importantly, it’s accurate and simple.

Authentic Weather displays the weather in terms that everyone can understand. It is a fully featured app that has a widget as well. Authentic Weather has a 3-day forecast when you swipe down while in the app. When you press and hold in the app, it displays current humidity and other statistics. There is also a paid version that unlocks a little customization and the weather camera. The weather camera allows you to take a picture with an overlay of the current weather.

The widget displays the current weather according to Authentic Weather, but without the .99 cent unlock, will not display the temperature in degrees.

Overall:

This app is more for the adult crowd. The free version is good for a quick test to see what it is about but I definitely recommend getting the .99 cent upgrade if you want to try it for any length of time as that will help the widget be more useful to you.

The app is fun to read. However, the widget could be a little more useful if it had a time feature and a feature to add high and low for the day. Serious weather junkies and at home meteorologists may not like the lack of radar view and only a 3-day forecast. But who are we kidding? You do not REALLY need that for your at a glance view for your phone.  This is my current weather pick and maybe something you will enjoy as well.

Honorable Mention:

Funny or Die has come up with their own twist by giving you a laugh to go with your weather.  Funny or die weather is powered by Weather Underground to get real and accurate weather results.  The app is designed very cleanly and has nice icons to display the weather.  While it is not the weather app that meteorologists will be using, it is the one the average person can.  The hook is that the FOD Weather app also has some sort of joke with the weather to keep you coming back just to see what they will write next.

Overall:

The app was a fun way to get information but lacked some of the features that I personally use.  The app has a full 5-day forecast and Weather Underground (the muscle behind this app) is one of the most accurate weather forecasts on the web.  The slow boot times and the lack of a widget leaves this only as a secondary app for the time being.
