Hyperkin is best known as one of the companies to make those off brand retro video game systems.  However, on March 31st, they put out a post to the the internet and the feeding frenzy began.

Hyperkin jokingly announced the SmartBoy.  It is an attachment that you slide your phone onto and put old gameboy and gameboy color games into the back and presto! The phone becomes the screen for all your nostalgic delight.  Your phone screen is even backlit so you can play in the dark.  This is unlike the old game systems that require the flashlight attachment.

Hyperkin later stated that the announcement of this device was just disguised as an April fools joke as a way to dip their toes into this pool.  Either way, its a happy ending for 80’s and 90’s kids.

The Hyperkin will be released for iphone first and development will start for android but with so many models currently on the market, it will be tough to determine how the dock will work.
